My intention is to use the power of the written and spoken word, to tap a potential, sow a seed, free a mind and that is why I write. My greatest desire, is that each time you visit, you find another piece for a Healing Season.

Kwanzaa's Seven Principles

I will continue to display the principles, because it's a good idea to keep them present. Do you agree?
I had the pleasure of meeting the founder of Kwanzaa,
Dr. Maulana Karenga, when I was a student at Shaw
University, in Raleigh North Carolina.
From December 26th. through January 1st we observe and celebrate the traditions of Kwanzaa. It is not a holiday although we give a greater credence to Kwanzaa at that time of the year. The Nguzo Saba (N goo-zoh) The Seven Principles are a lifestyle. Just imagine how much greater this world will be, as we continue to instill these principles into our lifestyle and become them.

1.umoja (unity) (oo-mo-ja)>
To strive for and maintain unity in the family, community, nation and race. You are a unit in the community.

2.Kujichagulia (coo-gee-cha'-goo-lee-ah) (Self-Determination)
To define ourselves, name ourselves, create for ourselves and speak for ourselves
This is why many of us change our names and have changed the sound of our children's names, wear Afrikan attire and have taken to reading and writing our own account of our plight) There is nothing more powerful than a made up mind. Initiate and be great in, 2008.

3. Ujima oo-jee-mah (Collective Work and Responsibility)
To build and maintain our community together and make our brother's and sister's problems our problems and to solve them together.
If your neighbor is not able to roll their trash bin to the curb, won't that eventually effect you? Roll it for them.

4. Ujamaa oo-jam-mah (Cooperative Economics)To
build and maintain our own stores, shops and other businesses and to profit from them together.
On the average, the dollars in the African community leave one Black business, are received by another Black business and then those dollars leave the community. There was a time when we traded almost exclusively with Black businesses. Never mind the motivation. The practice worked for us. Our dollars did flips, bounced, rolled turned cartwheels and remained in the community. (That system "won't" broke; we didn't need to fix it- we need to resurrect it.) Thus the principle, Ujamaa. Our business are a part of the economic food chain. Let's alter our economic diet. It's not too late to initiate.

5. Nia knee-ah (Purpose)
To make our collective vocation the building and developing of our community in order to restore our people to their traditional greatness. What is your vision for greatness?

6. (Creativity) Koo-oom-bah
To do always as much as we can, in the way we can, in order to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it.

7. Imani (Faith)
To believe with all our heart in our people, our parents, our teachers, our leaders and the righteousness and victory of our struggle.

We Deny

We descended 450 flights with a thud of reality
We still deny our origin
We deny who we are what we look like
Engrossed with barbie dolls,
cinderella and rapunzel's hair.
We frolic and frenzy to drive
BMW, Lexus, Mercedes Benz
We are sleeping beauties

We once touched Western land
brought forth nourishment, capital, commerce
Against our will we surrendered skill
Against our will we brought forth life and death
to our stripped offspring, falling betwixt the cracks
not fully accepted, not even by ourselves

Strive to be accepted, deny self
Falling deeper into the oppressive clench
As I accept you, I reject me
The sick cycle of confusion,
psycho-social collusion
and multi mega exclusion.
Dare to be Afrikan, living in America!

aka Prince

In a fantasy second,
I saw him in Re-do Records
sorting through the old CD's.
I thought for a split second... he looks like Prince.
He was!
I said quietly transfixed, oh....my....goodness.

He looked up, glanced at me.
The next thought was out of my mouth
before I could halt the vibration.
You a funky Daddy.

He smiled, then beamed and continued sorting.
I joined him in silence, tickled with our secret.

Ever Present Beauty

Just returned from a wonderful dinner with some good people. It was such a pleasant feeling to be in the midst of happy, bright and healthy children. Children comfortable in their skin with parents who were grounded and with the ability to discipline, and while maintaining the dignity of their children.
The highlight of my day was morning of 12/25/2010 at dawn. I had opened my front door to slap a small rug against the side of my house. I looked across the street approximately 500 yards ahead and slightly to my right, to notice some forms. It took a few seconds before it registered...deer!They were stark still and so was I. I turned off my 75 watt exterior energy saving light bulb and stood starring at these majestic creatures begin to slowing move across the field into the forested wetland. A gift from the Creator just for me. I give thanks. Season's Greetings

Recognizing Our Own Talent...ROOT1

It has been a long time since I last posted. I have lots to talk with you about.
Spring has arrived in the Southeastern US and I am really happy about that. It is beautiful In Raleigh, NC . In the next 24 hrs. I will tell you abut ROOT 1 , our community garden endeavor, so stay tuned. Have any of you ever heard of Will Allen? I will call him "The Urban Garden Guru". Check him out in the 4/2010 Jet Magazine.

How Time Flies

At the time of this posting it had been close to ten months since referring to the election, that we needed to win. It is officially a fact that yes we did and "yes we can"... A new chapter is beginning and the saga continues. The Inauguration is scheduled for January 20, 2009 in Washington, DC. The Capital of the Nation. My! my! my!

I appeal to each reader's eyes to look at the big picture, the present status of your world and the global community. Find a niche and improve the and improve living conditions for all of us.
